Chinese firms join waste management project in Pakistan

Two Shanghai-based companies have signed an agreement with Pakistan's biggest city to build a US$100 million solid waste treatment project, reported Xinhua on Monday.

The scheme in Karachi, a sister city of Shanghai, includes the construction of facilities for garbage collection, transportation and recycling, said Qian Yulin, general manager of Shanghai Shengong Environmental Protection Co. Ltd.
 
The garbage treatment process would produce fertiliser and methane, said Qian. The methane will be used to produce electricity.
