UK residents use about 150 litres of water per person daily for washing and drinking, the Guardian reported the group as saying, but use around 30 times as much in "virtual water", which is used in the production of imported food and textiles.
The report said consumers in the UK were inadvertently contributing to the slow death of rivers overseas, as many products are imported from countries suffering severe water shortages.
Water experts are meeting this week in Stockholm, Sweden, for the World Water Week forum. The report said water is increasingly being
seen as "the new oil": a finite resource that is depleted in some areas and will see price increases around the world.
