Asia Society launches Beijing air project

A recently-launched online photography project aims to monitor air quality in the Chinese capital before, during and after the Olympic Games.

Athletes and others have expressed concerns about the health effects of air pollution at the Games. Measures introduced by the city, including factory closures and an alternate-day ban on automobiles, have so far proved insufficient to clear the skies.

China is now reportedly planning "emergency" green measures to improve air quality.

The project, run by the New York-based Asia Society, features daily photographs of the Beijing skyline, allowing visitors to see for themselves how many days in the past year were truly blue.
