China surveys its worst polluters

China has begun its first national survey of the country's major sources of pollution, state media reported this week.

Companies across the country are being asked to provide information for the China Pollution Source Census, which will be published next
year.

The aim will be to shape the government’s environmental policy, Zhou Jian, of the State Environmental Protection Administration, was quoted as saying, by identifying major sources of pollution in an accurate and comprehensive fashion.

More than 400,000 surveyors have been trained to conduct the census, the report said.
