Snow storms destroy ‘one tenth of China’s forests’

Recent winter storms damaged around one-tenth of China's forests, with 90% of forests ruined in the hardest-hit regions, Reuters reported state media as saying on Saturday.

Total losses, reports cited the State Forestry Administration as saying, reached 173,000 square kilometres of forest in 18 provinces across south China.

A separate report in January valued the damage to China’s forests at about US$2.5 billion.
