Brazil ‘unable’ to curb Amazon destruction

High commodity prices and a lack of available land are driving ranchers and farmers deeper into the Amazon in search of cheap land, the report quotes environmentalists as saying.

Between August and December last year, 7,000 square kilometres, or two-thirds the annual rate, were chopped down.
