Citing the Beijing News, the New York Times reported on Thursday that Beijing will pull about 1.65 million cars and trucks off the city’s roads each day. Dedicated Olympics traffic lanes will be established and public transit will be increased, with new shuttle buses for visitors and residents alike.
Ranked as among the worst in the world, Beijing’s air pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing organisers of the Games. About 3.3 million vehicles were expected in the city by August.
