Wang Yongchen wins “Green Chinese” award

Film director Zhang Yimou and chinadialogue writer Wang Yongchen were among nine winners of the "Green Chinese" awards, a government prize for "engagement in environmental protection", Xinhua news agency reported.

The annual awards ceremony focused on water pollution, the report said, after a series of serious water pollution incidents this year.

Wang Yongchen founded the NGO Green Earth Volunteers in 1996 and is a reporter for China National Radio.

Zhang Yimou had followed "eco-friendly rules during movie shooting," as well as "highlighting green issues as the chief director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 2008," the report added.
