China plans first offshore wind farm

China National Offshore Oil Corporation plans to venture into renewable energy with China's first off-shore wind farm, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.

The project would be 60 kilometres out to sea, in the Bohai Bay, where the company has a large portion of its oil production, CNOOC president Fu Chengyu was quoted as saying.

CNOOC aimed to be an energy company rather than just an oil company, Xinhua quoted Fu saying on the sidelines of a key Communist Party Congress in Beijing, adding the company was interested in new energy, efficiency and renewable technologies.
