Environmental hazards “kill 4 million children a year”

Four million children under the age of five die every year due to environmental hazards, Reuters reported a UN agency as saying on Friday.
Poisonings, acute respiratory infections, diarrhoeal diseases and malaria carried by mosquitoes which thrive in dirty, polluted water account for most of the toll, the World Heath Organisation (WHO) said in a report.
Some 30% of illnesses and deaths due to disease in children can be attributed to environmental factors, the report also said.
