China halts ‘Green GDP’ release

China has halted the release of an official report costing the nation's environmental damage, reported The Beijing News today. Release of the new 'Green GDP' report, analysing data from 2005, has been indefinitely delayed.
The China Environment News, official newspaper for the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), stated earlier this month that focusing on "green GDP" was necessary to combat local officials’ fixation on growth. Green GDP factors the cost of pollution and ecological degradation into traditional economic analysis.
