Global warming heats up Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Climate change may cause a two-degree annual temperature rise on China 's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by 2030, the Shanghai Morning Post reported environmentalists as saying on Wednesday.

Tibet experienced its third warm winter in seven years, between December 2006 and February 2007, with temperatures increasing by nine degrees Celsius in some areas, said the regional meteorological bureau.

"Brown bears often barge into villages to seek food in winters as their winter sleep has been shortened due to higher temperatures," a 71-year-old Tibetan herdsman was reported as telling the newspaper.
