UN Bali meeting should map out new climate treaty, say officials

December's UN climate conference should set a timetable towards a post-Kyoto agreement, Reuters reported environment officials from 28 nations as saying on Thursday.
Swedish environment minister Andreas Carlgren said delegates were united in calling on rich nations to lead the fight global warming while encouraging developing countries to adopt achievable, voluntary targets.
"We should create stimulus for a future climate strategy, for [developing countries] to really be able to do measurable and reportable emission cuts," Reuters reported Carlgren as saying.
He added that the Bali conference "should establish a Road Map with a timetable and concrete steps for the negotiations with a view to reaching an agreement by 2009."
