China water pollution up, air pollution down – SEPA

Nearly 70% of China’s water was described as "fit for drinking" in the first three months of the year, five percentage points lower than
last year.

Permanganate, ammonia and nitrogen were the biggest sources of water pollution, China ‘s State Environmental Protection Administration
(SEPA) said on its website.

But the air has improved over the same period, said SEPA, reporting good air quality for around 75 days in 113 Chinese cities, five days
more than in the same quarter of 2006.
