China is world’s biggest emitter of sulphur dioxide, says SEPA

China has become the world's biggest emitter of sulphur dioxide, according to the country's State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA). The total discharge of SO2 rose by 27% between 2000 and 2005, the agency said on Thursday.
Controlling SO2 emissions, one of the main causes of acid rain, is a major challenge for China's future development, according to a Xinhua news report.
